Zagreb Tourist Board and Croatia Airlines partner to promote Zagreb as a pet-friendly destination
25 October 2024, Zagreb
Croatia Airlines will support an initiative by the Zagreb Tourist Board over the next two months, promoting Croatia’s capital as a pet-friendly destination.
In November and December, dog and cat owners flying with Croatia Airlines will have access to special perks and additional services, including an increase in the number of pets allowed in the passenger cabin. During this period, Croatia Airlines will allow three pets (dogs or cats) per flight instead of the usual two.
Additionally, pet owners will enjoy a 20% discount on the pet transport service, and can access special package deals when travelling from the emissive markets of the Obzor Holidays travel agency. The package deals include owner and pet return airfare, owner and pet accommodation in one of Zagreb’s four pet-friendly hotels (for 2, 3, or 4 days), and owner and pet airport transfers. – Pet owners represent an increasingly significant segment of travellers, whose specific behaviours, needs and expectations shape the travel market in unique ways. Thanks to its numerous green spaces, pet-friendly facilities, and welcoming atmosphere for pets, Zagreb is a place where pets can enjoy the city alongside their owners. This is why we joined the Zagreb Tourist Board’s initiative to help position our capital as an ideal pet-friendly destination on the global map – said Jasmin Bajić, CEO of Croatia Airlines.
The pet travel market has grown in recent years, driven by a growing awareness of pets as family members and, according to some research, has reached billions of dollars in value, with continued annual growth. Over half of households in Europe today have a pet.
The Zagreb Tourist Board recognised these trends and created a specialised website, www.infozagreb.hr/en/pets-of-zagreb, which consolidates information on Zagreb’s pet-friendly amenities.
– Earlier this spring, the Zagreb Tourist Board launched a promotional campaign and specialised website, where travellers can find information on pet-friendly accommodation options, dining spots, veterinary services, shelters, dog parks, grooming salons, and pet-friendly cultural institutions because we know that travelling with pets requires a lot of detailed planning. Studies show that more than 50% of travellers worldwide take their pets on holiday. In that respect, I’m delighted to extend our partnership with Croatia Airlines to further reinforce Zagreb’s reputation as a welcoming pet-friendly destination – said Martina Bienenfeld, CEO at the Zagreb Tourist Board.
